Community Welcome CIC welcomes and supports forcibly displaced people within our community
Based in Rugby, Warwickshire
OUR STORY
Community Welcome is a local volunteer run refugee support organisation based in Rugby, set up to support new arrivals into our area. Our ethos is ‘Unity through Community’
Since forming a year ago, we have provided around 500 people with care packages containing new underwear, clothing, coats and footwear when they arrive. As seasons change and children grow, we fulfil requests of whatever ongoing clothing items are needed. We are really proud of how our clothing project has evolved and how many people we support, and hope to collaborate with local schools in the future to provide a uniform bank
Mental health and well-being support has always been important to us. We understood early on that exercise was a huge aspect of that. We have successfully established weekly men's football sessions as well access to gym sessions, plus a weekly fitness class for ladies. We are very hopeful of adding swimming sessions to this in the new year
We are proud to have joined forces with many local organisations to help provide cooking events, friendly football matches and are on the cusp of some of our refugee friends being signed by a local football club
This has been made possible by fundraising, attaining grants as well as donations in kind from our wonderful community
We work tirelessly but love volunteering together and are so grateful to be able to do it as well as meet so many amazing people along the way.

OUR PROJECTS
FOOTBALL
We hold a weekly football session with an FA qualified coach, indoor throughout the winter and outdoors in the summer. Football truly is an international language and amazing for mental wellbeing
CLOTHING
Through fundraising, grants and donations, we are able to provide new clothing, underwear and shoes for new arrivals. We also hold regular clothing events for guests to choose themselves
FITNESS
Our weekly women's fitness sessions are run by our female fully qualified PT, but are very much led by the ladies and the types of exercise are best for their goals and mental wellbeing
COMMUNITY
We work with the community for the community and our projects very much reflect that. We see our efforts as collaborative and tools for connecting and building Unity Through The Community
